Why I’m a Conservative – a video

Today on the Allman in the Morning Show, I was asked by regular caller Damon, “How can you consider yourself a black Republican?”  What a deliciously Libalicious question!  I answered by saying that I am Pro-Life, believe in a constitutionally limited government and a strong national defense.  But somehow that doesn’t seem to be enough of an answer to me.  It is incumbent upon me to deliver an answer that fully explains why I am what I am.  Why I feel compelled to spout off on the radio once per week here in Saint Louis and in Augusta South Carolina.  So I made a quick video.  It’s not television ready – but the point is there in living color.  Enjoy.

And in case anyone is unsure of just what the Republican Party Platform is -  I have the link for it right here:  http://www.gop.com/2008Platform/2008platform.pdf

  1. Nicely done… and not that it’s news, but Stacy on the Right is Right!Btw, I’m working on that everyone not liking classical lit stuff. Gimmee time.;-)Van

  2. Hey Stacy. Nice video. I’m what you would probably call a liberal Democrat, but my liberal Democrat friends often call me conservative. I like to refer to myself as just left of center. So now you know where I am coming from. Oh and I am also African American. I heard you on the radio this morning. I can’t say you and your comments thrill me very much, but I listen. Thank you for your service by the way.OK here’s the thing, When I was young, I used to say that I hate black conservatives even more than I do just plain old ultra-conservatives. But now I don’t hate anybody, so I don’t hate you. I am sure you are relieved to hear that. :) In your video, you just sounded like a plain old conservative spouting the Republican platform. I was hoping to hear about what brought you to those conclusions? What life experiences did you have that make you believe some gay couple getting married is somehow a threat to your liberty, for example.Had you just started out with being pro-life for religious purposes, I would have had a better understanding. Because I believe religious pro-life people have no choice but to be conservatives. That’s why I give people like J.C. Watts (a person I truly admire) a pass. I also like Colin Powell and was warming up to Condoleezza Rice. But I believe most of you prominent Black Conservatives are just allowing yourselves to be used. So the Republicans can disingenuously say to themselves, “I am not racist, there are blacks in the Republican party.” Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe even most Republicans are racist at all ,selfish maybe, but not necessarily racist. Do you know that there are less than 6% of African Americans in the Republican party? Yet look at the percentage that make it to some of the highest positions in the party. Secretary of State (twice), Chairman of the RNC, top member of congress (J.C. Watts), Republican Presidential Candidate, all over Faux news and so on. Couldn’t they find any qualified white men for some of those positions? After all nearly half are white men. Talk about affirmative action! It just kind of bugs me that you guys allow yourselves to be paraded around like they do you. I can’t argue with you all making a buck, but sometimes it seems it’s at your own people’s expense. Kind of like a drug dealer (I am not saying you are like a drug dealer). The other problem that I have is who you associate with. If you believe there are real prejudice white folks against black people in the world, where do you think they are? Marching in a gay pride parade or sitting at a climate change convention? Probably not. They are sitting right next to you at a Tea Party event or an RNC convention. They are the extreme Right and they are just sitting there, smiling in your face and quietly laughing at the Black Conservatives or as Ann Coulter would put it “they’re blacks” who are smiling and saying everything that they want to hear. I can’t sit in a room full of political people and know those people are peppered throughout the room.I could babble on for days on this and many more subjects so I’ll stop. Honestly, I am glad that you served so that we all have the ability to believe and express what ever we want to…that’s all I am doing here. May God bless you and your family and I look forward to continue listening to you say things that makes my blood boil on the radio.

  3. Beaves, Same old same old. Same tired mantra. Try proving your nonsensical remark about racism in the Tea Party. Racists have always been primarily in the Democrat party. Slavery, Jim Crow all Democrat institutions. You complain about only 6% black in the Republican party then don’t like the prominence of those who are. That is double speak. And I am very sorry if the best and the brightest Americans are attracted to the morals and ideas of the Republican party. Ideas will eventually win out. The unconstitutional social programs of Roosevelt and Johnson have crippled the black and indian communities with a hopeless, jobless future. Conservatism is the only answer.

  4. “But I believe most of you prominent Black Conservatives are just allowing yourselves to be used. So the Republicans can disingenuously say to themselves, “I am not racist, there are blacks in the Republican party.”In a nutshell, what Beaves in another way of saying it, is that Stacy is an “Uncle Tom”

  5. I was waiting for members of the party of tolerance to break out the name calling. Is there a liberal out there that can argue ideas? Of course not, because like kids on the playground – its more fun to say “nanny nanny boo boo, you’re an uncle tom!!!” than it is to declare why you support the Democrats. This video is about why I am a conservative. The names are petty, inaccurate and untrue. It’s fun to watch folks get all upset about a black person exercising their right to think….

  6. Beaves,I am a black conservative. When I have asked some of my lib friends, why they are Democrats, only thing they do is tell me everything that is wrong with Republicans. It’s as if Republicans can do nothing right and Democrats can do nothing wrong. How narrowminded is that? And also it is very insulting to say that Black conservatives are being used by Republicans. When someone starts with the insults, that means they have lost their position, if they ever had one.Beside, the Dems have been using Blacks for years. Blacks need to wake up and take a real good look at their innter cities, the crime rate, teenage pregancy, promiscuity, education system, etc, This is over 50+ years of the War on Poverty. Blacks in the urban areas are still in poverty and still uneducated and still in prisons. Wake up!!!

  7. Hey Stacy – I LUV your video. I learned about you from Allman in the a.m. I didn’t know you were in the service, wow and thank you. I really like how you said “not all blacks are good at basketball, not all whites are literary readers, etc.” I am very artsy & creative and people say to me…what – you are conservative, you seem like you’d be liberal for sure! Why, cause I’m an artist, so therefor I “should be liberal” Ha, NOPE! Oh, and Beaves comment is great. It’s funny how liberals cant STAND for blacks to be conservative. And “they” like to claim we are racist. ~LC

  8. Tom where do you think the racists are? Maybe you think they don’t exist. Cheryl, I am not calling anybody an Uncle Tom. I’ve been called an Uncle Tom before and I don’t like it, no reason for me to call anyone else one. Stacy, I am Democrat, because I can’t support Republicans. If there was some place else to go where my voice would make a difference, I would consider it, but right now the Democrats are all that’s here. Pauline that is exactly right why a lot of blacks are Democrats, they just can’t overlook the things that you obviously can about the Republican party. Anybody who says that the Democrats can do nothing wrong, should be discounted. That’s ridiculous. But I am thinking that’s what you hear, not what they say. “Blacks need to wake up and take a real good look at THEIR inner cities,” I thought you were black? I would have chosen the words OUR inner cities. You are further gone than maybe even you thought. Lisa…I suppose you are saying that Black Conservatives CAN STAND that most blacks are Democrats. I didn’t say you were racists, I said racists are among you. If all liberals have to eat the Occupy folks, you guys have to eat the racists.

  9. Beavis:The racists are among you as well!  You absolutely ignore the fact that racists can vote for and do vote for Democrats too. You readily admit that the Dem platform isn’t right for you but you continue to vote for them!!  I’ve yet to hear you argue policy. Put the the Democrat social and fiscal policy up against the Republican platform and argue that. Not all Republicans are racists. There are plenty of racist Democrats, I’ve met a few. Done with the race card. StacySent from my iPhone 4s

  10. Beaves,….”Pauline that is exactly right why a lot of blacks are Democrats, they just can’t overlook the things that you obviously can about the Republican party”…..MY RESPONSE–Okay, Beavis, enilighten me — what is it about the Republican party that I am obviously overlooking? And try to leave racism out of it this time…..”Anybody who says that the Democrats can do nothing wrong, should be discounted. That’s ridiculous. But I am thinking that’s what you hear, not what they say”….MY RESPONSE–Well, by inference, when you only hear Democrats constantly ragging on the Republicans, you kind of get the feeling that that’s what is going on. I will also say this, I would vote for a Democrat if I can find one that is pro-choice. Would you vote for a Republican, if you think he is NOT a racist? The point that I am making is that I do not hate Democrats, but I know for a fact that most blacks hate and despise Republicans. They will vote for the devil himself (And in some cases they have–can you say Kwame Kirkpatrick– to keep from even looking at a Republican candidate. Blacks should begin to vote their principle and vote for the person instead of their pockets and their political party. . “Blacks need to wake up and take a real good look at THEIR inner cities,” I thought you were black? I would have chosen the words OUR inner cities.MY RESPONSE– Oh no, Beavis, I am not falling for that. I see this as a tactic to get me to defend my blackness instead of the debating the issues. Nice try…….”You are further gone than maybe even you thought….” MY RESPONSE — I will continue to debate and verbally interact with you, if you promise to not insult me again. .

  12. I just found you and your website!! Am loking forward to your postings and getting to know you better. Thank you for your service to our country and thank you for having the courage to be who you are-stand up for what you believe, and speak it out loud-that is what America is all about and that is what you fought for!! Have a blessed day!!

  13. Sorry folks I don’t get to this cite too much. There is so much I want to say, Let me start tho with an apology. I don’t mean to insult anyone. So if you feel insulted by any thing I post, read it again and try to process it from a non-insulting point of view. After all I don’t know you and would not try and judge your whole character simply by your politcal views.Stacy, maybe there are some racists around me in fact, I am sure of it. They are probably black…not saying that’s right, but I can deal with them cause I am black. I’ll call ‘em racist if I see it and too. As for policy, trckle down, Austrian economics, whatever you want to call it doesnt work. It’s killing the middle class. Me and most blacks I know occupy the middle class and below. IMO if everybody would just vote their own pocketbook the country would be better for it.

  14. Hello Stacy,Perhaps you’ll feel more comfortable engaging in a dialogue on your own blog rather than on YouTube.Stacy, greetings to you. I respect your right to be a Conservative and you gave good reasons.. Where can we find the audio of your exchange with Damon on the Allman show? Can you help? I’d like to see if you made this video because you found his points incontestable or at least difficult to counter…just wondering. I’d also like to know whether he actually said that “all” Republicans are racist. If he did, he is clearly incorrect. If not, then you are engaging in a straw man argument.DamaniWVK 4 days agoPart 2Stacy,you are demonstrably wrong on “5,000 years of civilization” re:marriage being between 1 man&1 woman. Unless,of course, you are calling the Mormon’s uncivilized and/or the MANY societies worldwide in which polygamy was/is practiced, including the “Holy Land.”(Exodus21:10; 2Sam12:8). If you maintain the accuracy of your statement, you are engaging in circular logic. Civilization=monogamy=civilization. Meanwhile, I agree with you that marriage SHOULD be between 1 male & 1 female.DamaniWVK 4 days agoLooking forward to dialogue.

  15. I’m not interested in dialoguing with you. There isn’t anything to dialogue about. I put out a video about being conservative. You disagree. Now you are over here on my blog looking to dialogue. Why? Why should I engage you? I have read your comments and see no reason to go any further with this discussion.

  16. tpheltz, yes it was. This guy is posting the same questions over and over again here. I already answered him over on YouTube. I’m done with him.
