Episode 561: Good News Friday!!

Planned Parenthood supporters are crowing with pride over having tricked construction workers into building an abortion center. CNN proves they are the ultimate in thin skinned fake news by refusing to air two devastatingly clever Trump campaign ads. We take a listen to them here on the show. And president Trump proves that he will not play nice with Pelosi by sending her a letter stating his intention to refuse to comply with her garbage until she executes an impeachment vote in the House of Representatives. BOOM.

“Author, Scholar, Janitor: Mostly the Janitor!” (Psalms 84:10)
Obadiah’s Cave: “Brother can you spare a seed?”

“And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.” (Luke 8:14-15)

The Parable of the Sower is foundational to understanding the other parables and the Word of God in general. Don’t take my word for it! “That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. And he said to them, Know you not this parable? and how then will you know all parables?” (Mark 4:12-13) In a country in which there is much discussion about “red flag” laws to keep guns out of the hands of crazy people, here we have a clear “red flag” to discern if we are a lunatic believer privately interpreting God’s Word. If you don’t “get” the Parable of the Sower, you are in Isaiah 6:10 territory, and also clearly within the self deception outlined in James 1:22. The Parable of the Sower is featured in Matthew 13, Mark 4 and Luke 8. The more you become familiar with this parable the more you will see it being referenced and applied in the Epistles. You cannot understand the Book of James without it! Like the Sermon on the Mount it is a bedrock for Christian theology. So even if you are an “expert” in eschatology, if foundational understandings are not present, your research into the times and the seasons will be in vain! (How shall you “endure until the end” if you cannot even get along with the wife of your youth!) The citation above, which encompasses the last two categories depicted in the parable, is intended to highlight my provocative essay title and illustrate but one point that is essential for a revival in our very degenerated culture.

I used to think that any idiot can sow the seed of the Gospel! In fact, this is true and I am a living, breathing example! But I also have come to know that simple quoting of the Bible, repeating Sunday morning preaching, passing tracts, breaking down the Tribulation and announcing the Rapture is not sufficient to call a multitude of sinners to repentance. Why? Because such dependence upon others for your supply of Biblical knowledge is a symptom of the shortage of the seed! Likewise, it creates the opportunity to also receive contaminated kernels. From the associated Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, this can produce a mixed crop in any fellowship. So when the be preaching the Gospel is coupled with a second hand knowledge of Jesus Christ, the result is worldly preachers who need a never ending supply of “corn” from seminaries, apologetic ministries, mega pastors and conferences to keep going. Ministries intended to stir up the gift of God within us become hard pressed to provide the supply of seed! Far too many have settled for making big money off of spiritual laziness! Unfortunately, this kind of religious expression resembles what we see in verse 14 above. The individual suffers from having a mixed bag and the thorny seed out paces God’s Word in taking space in the garden of our heart!

In verse 15 we see the answer to our many woes and to the lack of vibrancy in our churches. This includes the restoration of godly conviction in any society. Each of us are called to be fruitful producers! We nurture our personal accountability to Christ by giving Him our time, attention and passion. This is done as we study His Word. This divides our soul and spirit. We cultivate a “honest and good heart” by coming to the Throne of Grace in our private closet of prayer to receive mercy and grace in our time of need. (See Hebrews 4: 12-16). Finally, we come together for preaching and worship that celebrate His worthiness (not ours!) on our appointed days. Over time God will produce His seed through us. The fruit of the Spirit will flavor our preaching. This invites others to partake of God’s Word by demonstrating its effectiveness . This produces new life in us and those around us! As it is written: “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.” (James 1:18).

There are no shortcuts to having faith and patience. Those leaders who crave the spotlight and MUST create a buzz to garner attention are being called by the Holy Spirit to repentance. The humiliation of the Church in America is epitomized by the endless marketing of doctrinal brands, end times predictions and miracle services as a substitute for godliness absent from those who are called to serve. We cannot long endure as a nation with our men of God having their hands out asking “brother can you spare a seed.” This is a time when our Republic needs Holy Spirit inspired dynamos who “shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalms 1:3) All of us need to become hungry for something more than second hand grain. No more tainted “GMO” Gospel by people who believe God needs their help! Yes, it is time for all of us to return to patiently waiting upon the Lord!

May the LORD bless you and Keep you!
