Black America – actively voting against herself

Hi Black America:

It’s me, intrepid blogger and snarky American conservative.  I’m trying to figure you out.  Not all of you, just the part that is actively opposing itself.  Just what am I referring to?  This ridiculous need for Black Americans to vote for Democrats because the Republicans are raaaaacists!  There is no verifiable proof that all Republicans are racists.  And even if there were and it was the truth, voting for conservative principles would still override that awful reality.  Simply put, most Blacks are socially and fiscally conservative.  They don’t like to pay more in taxes, and they certainly want educational choice and opportunity for their children.

Specifically, if you believe in traditional marriage how can you support the Democrat party?  Homosexual rights are one of their core beliefs and they insist that anyone that does not support the agenda is a bigoted homophobic neanderthal that requires immediate and repeated re-education.  The passage of Prop 8 in California highlighted the schism within the Democrats core constituency.  Blacks overwhelmingly believe in traditional marriage.  Do you support abortion?  If you support the Dems you do.  It matters not what you say with your mouth, if you vote for the Dems you absolutely support Planned Parenthood, even to the detriment of our troops and fiscal responsibility!  Never mind the fact that due in no small part to Planned Parenthood the black population in America is down by 40% since the passage of Roe v. Wade.

Oh, now there is a major thorn!  The national fiscal crisis:  America is borrowing 43 cents of every dollar that we spend.  I don’t know one Black family that operates their household budget that way.

The U.S. Congress sets a federal budget every year in the trillions of dollars. Few people know how much money that is so we created a breakdown of federal spending in simple terms. Let’s put the 2011 federal budget into perspective:
U.S. income: $2,170,000,000,000
Federal budget: $3,820,000,000,000
New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
Recent budget cut: $ 38,500,000,000 (about 1 percent of the budget)

It helps to think about these numbers in terms that we can relate to. Let’s remove eight zeros from these numbers and pretend this is the household budget for the fictitious Jones family.
Total annual income for the Jones family: $21,700
Amount of money the Jones family spent: $38,200
Amount of new debt added to the credit card: $16,500
Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
Amount cut from the budget: $385

So in effect last month Congress, or in this example the Jones family, sat down at the kitchen table and agreed to cut $385 from its annual budget. What family would cut $385 of spending in order to solve $16,500 in deficit spending?

It is a start, although hardly a solution. Now after years of this, the Jones family has $142,710 of debt on its credit card (which is the equivalent of the national debt).

Yet Dems overwhelmingly support bankrupting our country for pet projects and frivolous overspending.  And most Democrats have openly refused to consider reforming our welfare, social security, and medicare spending.  The lunacy of the lack of a budget passing in three years in the most developed country in the free world is so fantastic and frightening as to defy the outer reaches of explanation.  Yet here we are.

While we ponder these interesting points, the media is continuing the methodical witch hunt of each and every Republican candidate for the presidential nomination.  Each one is being scrutinized and vetted with laser pointed precision.  Yet we still don’t know any of Barack Hussein Obama’s grades from kindergarten through law school.  None of his previous girlfriends have ever been interviewed.  None of his college papers or articles written as Editor of the Harvard Law Review have ever been shared with the electorate.

Instead of going over every juicy personal detail of the candidates, (they gave candidate Obama a pass so why not the Republicans?) why doesn’t the media focus on the policy and legislative actions that are affecting each and every taxpayer?  This isn’t an audition for American Idol or Dancing with the Stars, the people that we elect have an immutable impact on each of our everyday lives!  Ignoring this fact the media has now procured copies of Newt Gingrich’s divorce papers.  Great.  Meanwhile, more and more Americans are slipping into poverty, increasing the numbers of folks that receive a check or direct deposit from the federal government and solidifying the malaise that is affecting so many Americans.

As a conservative black, can I even understand what your motivation is as a Democrat?  Of course I can, because I was a Democrat once too.  My shift politically coincided with the birth of our first child and the cold realities of success.  My husband’s career started taking off and the better he did at work, the bigger the tax bite.  I suddenly began to care a great deal about which party wanted smaller government and lower taxes.

I also noticed the continual assault on my rights as a parent to teach traditional morality to my kids, by public institutions.  And we had to give up our urban dwelling state of mind to move out to the suburbs for good schools, or continue to pay for private tuition.  During all of this upheaval I looked at the leadership of the city, it has been consistently Democrat for nearly 50 years.  Yet poverty, rampant crime, and a failed education system are all that city voters have to show for their consistent unfailing allegiance to the Dems.

So what do I want?  Why am I addressing you?  I’m suggesting that you throw off the shackles of race based decision making and stand on your beliefs!  Forget party and decide for yourself what and whom you will support based on what you stand for, and what the candidate has done.  When you rationalize the actions of leaders that you vote for and support – that continually legislate against your own interests, you act in opposition to yourself.

Any people who will vote the same way for three generations without thereby obtaining results ought to be ignored and disfranchised. As a minority element the Negro should not knock at the door of any particular political party.”  Dr. Carter D. Woodson
