Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was having a bit of fun on the campaign trail in his aptly named hometown of Commerce Michigan.  He actually named the hospitals where he and Ann were born:

“Now I love being home in this place where Ann and I were raised, where both of us were born.  Ann was born in Henry Ford Hospital.  I was born in Harper Hospital,” Romney said.

Then Romney jovially quipped “No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate.  They know that this is the place where we were born and raised.”

Now in response to this obviously good natured jab,  Team Obama has come out petulantly crying foul.  Apparently jokes are only funny when President Obama makes them.

The Obama campaign swiftly responded to the comment, blasting Romney as having “embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them.”

“It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff [Joe] Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America,” said Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt.

Of course it wasn’t a travesty when the president himself actually poked fun of the whole “birther mess”.
